晋书卷九十四 列传第六十四：
陶淡，字处静，太尉侃之孙也。父夏，以无行被废。淡幼孤，好导养之术，谓仙道可祈。年十五六，便服食绝谷，不婚娶。家累千金，僮客百数，淡终日端拱，曾不营问。颇好读《易》善卜筮。于长沙临湘山中结庐居之，养一白鹿以自偶。亲故有候之者，辄移渡涧水，莫得近之。州举秀才，淡闻，遂转逃罗县埤山中，终身不返，莫知所终。
