清史稿卷三百七十二 列传一百五十九：
陈连升，湖北鹤峰人。由行伍从征川、楚、陕教匪，湖南、广东逆瑶，数有功。累擢增城营参将。道光十九年，破英兵於官涌，擢三江协副将，调守沙角炮台。及英舰来犯，连升率子武举长鹏以兵六百当敌数千，发地雷扛炮毙敌数百，卒无援，殁於阵，长鹏赴水死。敌以连升战最猛，脔其尸。事闻，诏嘉其父子忠孝两全，入祀昭忠祠，并建专祠，加等依总兵例赐恤，予骑都尉世职，子展鹏袭，起鹏赐举人。
