陈孝意，河东人。
北史卷八十五 列传第七十三：
孝意，河东人。大业初，为鲁郡司法书佐，郡内号为廉平。太守苏威尝欲杀一囚，孝意固谏，不许。孝意因解衣先受死。良久，威意乃解，谢而遣之，渐加礼敬。及威为纳言，奏孝意为侍御史。后以父忧去职，居丧过礼，有白鹿驯扰其庐，时人以为孝感。寻起授雁门郡丞。在郡菜食斋居，朝夕哀临，每一发声，未尝不绝倒。柴毁骨立，见者哀之。时长吏多赃污，孝意清节弥厉。发奸摘伏，动若有神，吏人称之。
炀帝幸江都，马邑刘武周杀太守王仁恭作乱，前郡丞杨长仁、雁门令王確等谋应贼。孝意知之，族灭其家，郡中战栗。俄而武周来攻，孝意拒之，每致克捷。但孤城无援，而孝意誓以必死。亦知帝必不反，每旦夕向诏敕库俯伏涕流，悲动左右。粮尽，为校尉张世伦所杀，以城归武周。
