宋史卷三百二十三 列传第八十二：
阎守恭，并州榆次人。父荣，倜傥有志略，刘继元欲召至帐下，辞以母老不就。守恭生而体貌奇伟，荣曰："是必当事太平天子，吾无恨矣。"后十七年，刘氏平，徙太原民于大名府，因家焉。往来负贩于并、汾间，过西山，闻郭进为都巡检使，太宗甚宠遇之。乃慨然曰："进不遇主，亦行伍尔，吾自度岂不及进邪？"遂应募，隶拱圣军，擢殿前押班。
咸平中，从幸河北，以功为捧日副指挥使，历拱圣、龙卫、捧日指挥使，累迁左第二军指挥使、乾州刺史。明道中，落军职，以德州刺史为永兴军兵马钤辖，徙并代路。
守恭性沉勇，御军严。虽家居如对宾客。常访求士大夫，取郭进事而师法之。所得奉禄悉散予人。在并州，因春社会宾客曰："守恭，太原一贫民尔。徒步位刺史，老复官乡里，逾分多矣。今日与卿辈诀。"后十日卒。
