邓元昌，赣县人。
清史稿卷四百八十 列传二百六十七：
元昌，字慕濂，赣县人。诸生。年十七，得宋五子书，遂弃举子业，致力於学。雩都宋昌图以通家子谒之，元昌喜之曰：“吾小友也！”馆之於家，昕夕论学为日程，言动必记之，互相考覈。一日，昌图读朱子大学或问首章，元昌过窗外驻听之，谓昌图曰：“子勉之！毋蹈吾所悔，永为朱子罪人，偷息天地也。”其互相切劘如此。
