赵不试，太宗六世孙。宣和末，通判相州，寻权州事兼主管真定府路经略安抚公事。建炎元年，知相州。初，汪伯彦既去相，金人执其子似，遣来割地，似至相，不试固守不下。明年，金人大入。州久被围，军民无固志，不试谓之曰："今城中食乏，外援不至。不试，宗子也，义不降，计将安出？"众不应。不试知事不可为，遂登城与金人约勿杀，许之。既启门，乃纳其家井中，然后以身赴井，命提辖官实以土。州人皆免于死。
