袁凯，松江华亭人。
明史卷二百八十五 列传第一百七十三：
袁凯，字景文，松江华亭人。元末为府吏，博学有才辨，议论飙发，往往屈座人。洪武三年荐授御史。武臣恃功骄恣，得罪者渐众，凯上言：“诸将习兵事，恐未悉君臣礼。请于都督府延通经学古之士，令诸武臣赴都堂听讲，庶得保族全身之道。”帝敕台省延名士直午门，为诸将说书。后帝虑囚毕，命凯送皇太子覆讯，多所矜减。凯还报，帝问“朕与太子孰是？”凯顿首言：“陛下法之正，东宫心之慈。”帝以凯老猾持两端，恶之。凯惧，佯狂免，告归，久之以寿终。凯工诗，有盛名。性诙谐，自号海叟。背戴乌巾，倒骑黑牛，游行九峰间，好事者至绘为图。初，在杨维桢座，客出所赋《白燕诗》，凯微笑，别作一篇以献。维桢大惊赏，遍示座客，人遂呼袁白燕云。
