薛提，太原人也，皇始中，补太学生，拜侍御史。累迁散骑常侍、太子太保，赐爵历阳侯，加晋兵将军。出为镇东大将军、冀州刺史，进爵太原公。所在有声绩。徵为侍中，治都曹事。世祖崩，秘不发丧。尚书左仆射兰延、侍中和匹等议，以为皇孙幼冲，宜立长君，徵秦王翰置之秘室。提曰："皇孙有世嫡之重，民望所系。春秋虽少，令问闻于天下，成王、孝昭所以隆周汉。废所宜立，而更求君，必不可。"延等犹豫未决。中常侍宗爱知其谋，矫皇后令徵提等入，遂杀之。
提弟浮子。高宗即位，以提有谋立之诚，诏袭兄爵太原公，有司奏降为侯。皇兴元年卒。
提孙令保，太和中，袭爵历阳侯。
