莫题，代人也，多智有才用。初为幢将，领禁兵。太祖之征慕容宝也，宝夜来犯营，军人惊骇。遂有亡还京师者，言官军败于柏肆，京师不安。南安公元顺因之欲摄国事。题谓顺曰："此大事，不可轻尔，宜审待后要，不然祸将及矣。"顺乃止。以功拜平远将军，赐爵扶柳公，进号左将军，改为高邑公。出除中山太守，督司州之山东七郡事。车驾征姚兴，次于晋阳。而上党群盗秦颇、丁零翟都等聚众于壶关，诏题帅众三千以讨之。上党太守捕颇，斩之。都走林虑。诏题搜山穷讨，尽平之。
初，昭成末，太祖季父窟咄徙于长安。苻坚败，从慕容永东迁。及永自立，以窟咄为新兴太守。登国初，刘显遣弟亢泥等迎窟咄，寇南鄙。题时贰于太祖，遗箭于窟咄，谓之曰："三岁犊岂胜重载"？言窟咄长而太祖少也。太祖既衔之。天赐五年，有告题居处倨傲，拟则人主。太祖乃使人示之箭，告之曰："三岁犊，能胜重载不？"题奉诏，父子对泣，诘朝乃刑之。
