胡国瑞，湖南攸县人。
清史稿卷四百九十六 列传二百八十三：
胡国瑞，字琼笙，湖南攸县人。举人。光绪二十九年，挑知县，发云南。始摄霑益知州，清积讼逾百。三十三年，署弥勒，县多盗，易八令不能治，告戍将：“我行，君继之，出不意，可擒也。”如其策，破贼巢，擒其渠斩之。明年大潦，蠲赈并举，以循绩上闻，被旨嘉奖。旋补江川，擢大关厅同知，皆未之任。时请修墓归里，既受代矣，变作，遣家属作，寓子书曰：“省垣不守，布政使被戕，馀无殉节者。臣子之义，万古为昭。予虽无守土责，然实官也。俟北信，当死即死。”旬日后，讹传京师破，明日有汲於署东井者，井上有双履，往视之，则屹立井中死矣，背有遗书，曰：“自经不死，又复投井。”又书曰：“京师沦陷，用以身殉。达人不取，愚者终不失为愚。”於是县吏棺敛之，邑人请封其井，题曰胡公井。
