行简，字知退。贞元末，登进士第，授秘书省校书郎。元和中，卢坦镇东蜀，辟为掌书记。府罢，归浔阳。居易授江州司马，从兄之郡。十五年，居易入朝为尚书郎，行简亦授左拾遗。累迁司门员外郎、主客郎中。长庆末，振武奏水运营田使贺拔志言营田数过实，诏令行简按覆之。不实，志弘，自刺死。行简宝历二年冬病卒，有文集一十卷。行简文笔有兄风，辞赋尤称精密，文士皆师法之。居易友爱过人，兄弟相待如宾客。行简子龟儿，多自教习，以至成名。当时友悌，无以比焉。
