宋史卷二百七十四 列传第三十三：
王赞，澶州观城人。少为小吏，累迁本州马步军都虞候。周世宗镇澶渊，每旬决囚，赞引律令辨析中理，问之，知其尝事学问，即署右职。及即位，补东头供奉官，累迁右骁卫将军、三司副使。时张美为使，世宗问："京城卫兵岁廪几何？"美不能对，赞代奏甚析，美因是衔之。及征关南，言于世宗，以赞为客省使，领河北诸州计度使。五代以来，姑息藩镇，有司不敢绳以法。赞所至，发擿奸伏，无所畏忌，振举纲领，号为称职，由是边臣切齿。师还，复为三司副使。
建隆初，始平李重进，太祖素知赞材干，可委以完葺，即令知扬州。既行，舟覆于阊桥下，溺死，亲属随没者三人。上甚嗟悼，谓左右曰："溺吾枢密使矣！"盖将大用也。赙其家绢三百匹，米、麦各二百斛。
