宋史卷三百三十 列传第八十九：
王宗望，字磻叟，光州固始人。以荫累擢夔州路转运副使。哲宗即位，行赦赏军，万州弥旬不给。庖卒朱明因众怒，白昼入府宅，伤守臣，左右惊散，他兵籍籍谋兆乱。宗望闻变，自夔疾驱至，先命给赏，然后斩明以徇，且窜视守伤而不救者。乃自劾，朝廷嘉之。历仓部郎中、司农少卿、江淮发运使。
楚州沿淮至涟州，风涛险，舟多溺。议者谓开支氏渠引水入运河，岁久不决，宗望始成之，为公私利。代吴安持为都水使者。自大河有东、北流之异，纷争十年，水官无所适从。宗望谓回河有创立金堤七十里，索缗钱百万，诏从之。右正言张商英论其诞谩，而宗望奏已有成绩，遂增秩三等，加直龙图阁、河北都转运使，擢工部侍郎，以集贤殿修撰知郓州。卒，年七十七。元符中，治其导河东流事，以为附会元祐，追所得恩典云。
