清史稿卷四百九十六 列传二百八十三：
王国维，字静安，浙江海宁州诸生。少以文名。年弱冠，適时论谋变法自强，即习东文，兼欧洲英、德各国文，并至日本求学。通农学及哲学、心理、论理等学。调学部，充图书馆、编译名词馆协修。辛亥后，携家东渡，乃专研国学。谓：“尼山之学在信古，今人则信今而疑古，变本加厉，横流不返。”遂专以反经信古为己任。著述甚多，撷其精粹为观堂集林二十卷。返国十年，以教授自给。壬戌冬，前陕甘总督升允荐入南书房，食五品俸，屡言事，皆褒许。甲子冬，遇变，国维誓死殉。驾移天津，丁卯春夏间，时局益危，国维悲愤不自制，於五月初三日，自沉於颐和园之昆明湖。家人於衣带中得遗墨，自明死志，曰“五十之年，祗欠一死！经此世变，义无再辱”云云。谥忠悫。海内外人士，知与不知，莫不重之。
