明史卷二百九十一 列传第一百七十九：
潘宗颜，字士瓒，保安卫人。善诗赋，晓天文、兵法。举万历四十一年进士，历户部郎中。数上书当路言辽事，当路不能用。以宗颜知兵，命督饷辽东。旋擢开原兵备佥事。四十六年，马林将出师，宗颜上书经略杨镐曰：“林庸懦，不堪当一面，乞易他将，以林为后继，不然必败。”镐不从。宗颜监林军，出三岔口，营稗子峪，夜闻杜松败，林军遂哗。及旦，大清兵大至。林恐甚，一战而败，策马先奔。守颜殿后，奋呼冲击，胆气弥厉。自辰至午，力不支，与游击窦永澄、守备江万春、赞理通判董尔砺等皆死焉。事闻，赐祭葬，赠光禄卿，再赠大理卿，荫锦衣世百户，谥节愍，立祠奉祀。永澄等亦赐恤如制。
