旧唐书卷一百八十五下 列传第一百三十五：
潘好礼，贝州宗城人。少与乡人孟温礼、杨茂谦为莫逆之友。好礼举明经，累授上蔡令，理有异绩，擢为监察御史。开元三年，累转邠王府长史。俄而邠王出为滑州刺史，以好礼兼邠王府司马，知滑州事。王欲有所游观，好礼辄谏止之。后王将鹰犬与家人出猎，好礼闻而遮道请还。王初不从，好礼遂卧于马前，呼曰："今正是农月，王何得非时将此恶少狗马践暴禾稼，纵乐以损于人！请先蹋杀司马，然后听王所为也！"王惭惧，谢之而还。
好礼寻迁豫州刺史，为政孜孜，而繁于细事，人吏虽惮其清严，亦厌其苛察。其子请归乡预明经举，好礼谓曰："国法须平，汝若经业未精，则不可妄求也。"乃自试其子。经义未通，好礼大怒，集州僚笞而枷之，立于州门以徇于众。俄坐事左迁温州别驾卒。好礼常自以直道，不附于人。又未尝叙累阶勋，服用粗陋，形骸土木，议者亦嫌其邀名。
