沈积中，常州人。赐进士出身，为辟雍正、户部员外郎，至秘阁修撰、河北转运使，召拜户部侍郎，进尚书，知河间、真定府。积中本王黼所引拔，黼方图燕地，使觇边隙。中书舍人程振语之曰："当思异时覆族之祸。"积中感其戒，至镇，以书谢振，盛言其不可，振宣告于朝。已而师败于白沟，童贯还，罢积中提举上清宝箓宫。既得燕山，又命以资政殿学士同知府，未行而卒，或曰为盗所杀，或曰婢杀之，终亦不能明也。贯恶其曩言，追削官职。建炎中，宰相上其书，乃悉复之。
