沈彤，吴江人。
清史稿卷四百八十一 列传二百六十八：
沈彤，字果堂，吴江人。自少力学，以穷经为事。贯串前人之异同，折衷至当。乾隆元年，荐举博学鸿词报罢，与修三礼及一统志。书成，授九品官，以亲老归。
彤淹通三礼，以欧阳修有周礼官多田少，禄且不给之疑，后人多沿其说，即有辨者，不过以摄官为词。乃详究周制，撰周官禄田考，以辨正欧说。分官爵数、公田数、禄田数三篇，积算至为精密。其说自郑注、贾疏以后，可云特出。又撰仪礼小疏一卷，取士冠礼、士昏礼、公食大夫礼、丧服、士丧礼为之疏笺，足订旧义之譌。其果堂集十二卷，多订正经学之文，若周官颁田异同说，五沟异同说，井田军赋说，释周官地征等篇，皆援据典核。又撰春秋左氏传小疏，尚书小疏，气穴考略，内经本论。
彤性至孝，亲殁，三年中不茹荤，不内寝。居恒每讲求经世之务，所著保甲论，其后吴德旋见之，称为最善云。卒，年六十五。
