汪琬，长洲人。
清史稿卷四百八十四 列传二百七十一：
汪琬，字苕文，长洲人。少孤，自奋於学，锐意为古文辞。於易、诗、书、春秋、三礼、丧服咸有发明。性狷介。深叹古今文家好名寡实，鲜自重特立，故务为经世有用之学。其於当世人物，褒讥不少宽假。顺治十二年进士，授主事，再迁刑部郎中。坐累降兵马司指挥，能举其职，不以秩卑自沮。任满，稍迁户部主事，民送之溢衢卷。榷江宁西新关，以疾假归。结庐尧峰山，闭户撰述，不交世事，学者称尧峰先生。以宋德宜，陈廷敬荐博学鸿儒科，试列一等。授编修，纂修明史，棘棘争议不阿。在馆六十日，再乞病归。归十年而卒，年六十七。
初，圣祖尝问廷敬今世谁能为古文者，廷敬举琬以对。及琬病归，圣祖南巡驻无锡，谕巡抚汤斌曰：“汪琬久在翰林，有文誉。今闻其居乡甚清正，特赐御书一轴。”当时荣之。琬为文原本六经，疏畅类南宋诸家，叙事有法。公卿志状，皆争得琬文为重。尝自辑诗文为类稿、续稿各数十卷，又简其尤精者，嘱门人林佶缮刻之。
