毛若虚，绛州太平人。
旧唐书卷一百八十六下 列传第一百三十六：
毛若虚，绛州太平人也。眉毛覆于眼，其性残忍。初为蜀川县尉，使司以推勾见任。天宝末，为武功丞，年已六十余矣。肃宗收两京，除监察御史。审国用不足，上策征剥财货。有润于公者，日有进奉，渐见任用称旨。每推一人，未鞫，即先收其家资，以定赃数。不满望，即摊征乡里近亲。峻其威权，人皆惧死，输纳不差晷刻。
乾元二年，凤翔府七坊押官先行剽劫，州县不能制，因有劫杀事。县尉谢夷甫因众怒，遂搒杀之。其妻诉于李辅国，辅国奏请御史孙莹鞫之。莹不能正其事。又令中丞崔伯阳三司使杂讯之，又不证成其罪。因令若虚推之，遂归罪于夷甫。伯阳与之言，若虚颇不逊。伯阳数让之，若虚驰谒告急。肃宗曰："卿且出。"对曰："臣出即死矣。"肃宗潜留若虚帘内，召伯阳至，伯阳颇短若虚。上怒，叱出之。因流贬伯阳同推官十余人，皆于岭外远恶处。宰相李岘以左右于莹等，亦被贬斥。于是若虚威震朝列，公卿慑惧矣！寻擢为御史中丞。上元元年，贬宾化尉而死。
