晋书卷三十四 列传第四：
锡字世嘏。少有盛名，起家长沙王乂文学，累迁太子中舍人。性亮直忠烈，屡谏愍怀太子，言辞恳切，太子患之。后置针著锡常所坐处毡中，刺之流血。他日，太子问锡："向著何事？"锡对："醉不知。"太子诘之曰："君喜责人，何自作过也。"后转卫将军长史。赵王伦篡位，以为治书御史。孙秀求交于锡，而锡拒之，秀虽衔之，惮其名高，不敢害也。惠帝反政，迁吏部郎、城阳太守，不拜，仍迁尚书左丞。年四十八卒，赠散骑常侍。子乂嗣，在《外戚传》。
