李桢，字干臣。其先，西夏国族子也。金末，桢以经童中选。既长，入为质子，以文学得近侍，太宗嘉之，赐名玉出干必阇赤。从皇子阔出伐金，帝命之曰：“凡军中事，须访桢以行。”及下河南诸郡，阔出遣桢偕吉登哥往唐、邓二州数民实，兵余岁凶，流散十八九。桢至，赈恤饥寒，归者如市。十年，从大将察罕下淮甸。桢以功佩金符，授军前行中书省左右司郎中。桢奏寻访天下儒士，令所在优赡之。十三年，师围寿春，天雨不止，桢言于察罕曰：“顿师城下，暑雨疫作，将有不利。且城久拒命，破必屠之，则生灵何辜。请退舍数里，身往招之。”从之。桢遂单骑入敌垒，晓以利害，明日，与其将二人率众来降。以功赐银五千两。桢表言：“襄阳乃吴、蜀之要冲，宋之喉襟，得之则可为他日取宋之基本。”定宗嘉其言。庚戌，赐虎符，授襄阳军马万户。丙辰，宪宗命桢率师巡哨襄樊。戊午，帝亲征，召桢同议事。秋九月，卒于合州，年五十九。
