徐嘉炎，秀水人。
清史稿卷四百八十四 列传二百七十一：
徐嘉炎，字胜力，秀水人，明兵部尚书必达曾孙。幼警敏，强记绝人。既，试鸿博，授检讨。康熙二十年，王师收滇、黔，嘉炎仿铙歌鼓吹曲，撰圣人出至文德舞二十四章以献；又四年元夕，圣祖於南海大放灯火，纵臣民使观，嘉炎复应制撰记：皆称旨。尝侍直，命背诵咸有一德，终篇不失一字。至“厥德靡常”数语，则敛容读之，帝为悚异。又尝问宋元祐党人是非，嘉炎举诸人姓名始末，及先儒评骘语其悉。特赐御临苏轼诗一卷，廷臣拜赐御书自此始也。累擢内阁学士，兼礼部侍郎，充三朝国史及会典、一统志副总裁。有抱经斋集。
