耀灵字元舒。年十岁嗣事，称大司马、校尉、刺史、西平公。伯父长宁侯祚性倾巧，善承内外，初与重华宠臣赵长、尉缉等结异姓兄弟。长等矫称重华遗令，以祚为持节、督中外诸军、抚军将军，辅政。长待议以耀灵冲幼，时难未夷，宜立长君。祚先烝重华母马氏，马氏遂从缉议，命废耀灵为凉宁侯而立祚。祚寻使杨秋胡害耀灵于东苑，埋之于沙坑，私谥曰哀公。
