旧唐书卷一百六十三 列传第一百一十三：
铉，字台硕，登进士第。三辟诸侯府，荆南、西蜀掌书记。会昌初，入为左拾遗，再迁员外郎，知制诰，召入翰林，充学士。累迁户部侍郎承旨。会昌末，以本官同平章事。为同列李德裕所嫉，罢相，为陕虢观察使、检校刑部尚书。
宣宗即位，迁检校兵部尚书、河中尹、博陵县开国子，食邑五百户。大中三年，召拜御中大夫，寻加正议大夫、中书侍郎、同平章事。累迁金紫光禄大夫，守左仆射、门下侍郎、太清宫使、弘文馆大学士、博陵县开国公，食邑至二千户。七年，以馆中学士崔瑑、薛逢等撰《续会要》四十卷，献之。九年，检校司徒、扬州大都督长史，进封魏国公、淮南节度使。宣宗于太液亭赋诗宴饯，有"七载秉钧调四序"之句，儒者荣之。
咸通初，移镇襄州。咸通八年，徐州戍将庞勋自桂管擅还，道途剽掠。铉时为荆南节度，闻徐州军至湖南，尽率州兵，点募丁壮，分扼江、湘要害，欲尽擒之。徐寇闻之，逾岭自江西、淮右北渡，朝议壮之。卒于江陵。
