宋琬，莱阳人。
清史稿卷四百八十四 列传二百七十一：
宋琬，字玉叔，莱阳人。父应亨，明天启中进士。令清丰，有惠政，民为立祠。崇祯末殉节，赠太仆寺卿。
琬少能诗，有才名。顺治四年进士，授户部主事，累迁吏部郎中。出为陇西道，过清丰，民遮至应亨祠，款留竟日，述往事至泣下。琬益自刻厉，期不坠先绪。调永平道，又调宁绍台道，皆有绩。十八年，擢按察使。时登州于七为乱。琬同族子怀宿憾，因告变，诬琬与于七通，立逮下狱，并系妻子。逾三载，下督抚外讯。巡抚蒋国柱白其诬，康熙三年放归。十一年，有诏起用，授四川按察使。明年，入觐，家属留官所。值吴三桂叛，成都陷，闻变惊悸卒。
始琬官京师，与严沆、施闰章、丁澎辈酬倡，有“燕台七子”之目。其诗格合声谐，明靓温润。既构难，时作凄清激宕之调，而亦不戾於和。王士祯点定其集为三十卷。尝举闰章相况，目为“南施北宋”。殁后诗散佚，族孙邦宪缀辑之为六卷。
