姚涣字虚舟，世家长安。隋开皇中，有景彻者，以讨平泸夷，策功为普州刺史，卒，子孙遂家普州。涣第进士，监益州交子务，发奸隐万缗，主吏皆当死，涣曰："戮人以干泽，非吾志也，义不蔽奸而已。"请于使者，愿不受赏，于是全活者众。知峡州。宜都民为盗所残，县执囚讯服，以狱上。涣移劾于他有司，居亡何，真盗获。大江涨溢，涣前戒民徙储积、迁高阜，及城没，无溺者。因相地形筑子城、埽台，为木岸七十丈，缭以长堤，楗以薪石，厥后江涨不为害，民德之。徙知涪州，宾化夷多犯境，涣施恩信拊纳，酋豪争罗拜廷下，讫涣去无警。终光禄卿，年六十七。
