姚宏任，钱塘人。
清史稿卷四百八十 列传二百六十七：
宏任，字敬恒，钱塘人。少孤，母，贤妇也。宏任隐巿廛，其母偶见贸丝银色下劣，愠甚，曰：“汝亦为此乎？”宏任长跪谢，原得改行，乃受业於捴谦。日诵大学一过，一言一行，服膺师说，遇事必归於忠厚。捴谦不轻受人物，惟宏任之餽不辞。曰：“吾知其非不义也。”宏任每时其乏而致之，终身不倦。捴谦卒，执丧如古师弟子之礼。姚江黄宗炎许之曰：“是笃行传中人也。”晚年以非罪陷缧绁。宪使阅囚入狱，宏任方朗诵大学，宪使异之，入其室，皆程、朱书；与之语，大惊，即日释之。然宏任卒以贫死。
