之蓉，字芙裳。雍正十一年进士。举鸿博，以检讨典试福建，又督广东、湖南学政。其校士也，必以通经学古为先。
当时试一等者，刘纶居首，次则南城潘安礼、金坛于振、钱塘杭世骏；二等自兆仑等三人外，为无锡杨度汪，菏泽刘玉麟，休宁汪士湟、程恂，钱塘陈士璠，天台齐召南，会稽周长登。其续取者，一等宜兴万松龄，二等桐乡朱荃、南安洪世泽、石屏张汉，凡十九人。惟纶、玉麟官最显，而世骏、召南及兆仑尤知名於世云。
