吴敏树，巴陵人。
清史稿卷四百八十六 列传二百七十三：
吴敏树，字本深，巴陵人。父达德，岁歉，贷贫民穀逾万石，不偿，有名湖、湘间。敏树生而好学，为文章力求岸异，刮去世俗之见。道光十二年，举於乡。时梅曾亮倡古文义法京师，传其师姚氏学说。敏树起湖湘，不与当世士接手，录明昆山归氏文成册。既，入都，与曾亮语合。於是京师盛传敏树能古文。曾国藩官京师，与敏树交最笃，既出治军，欲使参幕事，辞不赴。
敏树貌温而气夷，意趣超旷，视人世忻戚得丧无累於其心。以大挑选浏阳训导，旋自免去。时登君山江楼，徜徉吟啸。学者称南屏先生。著柈湖文录。卒，年六十九。
敏树之友以文名者，曰杨彝珍，字性农，武陵人。父丕复，举人，官石门训导，著历代舆地沿革。彝珍，道光末进士，选庶吉士，改兵部主事。与曾国藩、左宗棠往还，好奔走声气。重宴鹿鸣，赏四品卿。年九十馀，卒。有移芝室集。
