吴承范，魏州人。
旧五代史卷九十二（晋书） 列传七：
吴承范，字表微，魏州人也。父琼，右金吾卫将军，累赠太子少保。承范少好学，善属文，唐闵帝之镇邺都也，闻其才名，署为宾职，承范恳求随计，闵帝许之。长兴三年春，擢进士第。及闵帝即位，授左拾遗。清泰二年，以本官充史馆修撰，与同职张昭远等共修《明宗实录》，转右补阙，依前充职。高祖革命，迁尚书屯田员外郎、知制诰。天福三年，改枢密院直学士，未几，自祠部郎中、知制诰召充翰林学士，正拜中书舍人，赐金紫。少帝嗣位，迁礼部侍郎，知贡举，寻遘疾而卒，年四十二。赠工部尚书。
承范温厚寡言，善希人旨，桑维翰、李崧尤重之，尝荐于高祖，云可大用。承范知之，持重自养，虽遇盛夏，而犹服襦袴，加之以纯绵，盖虑有寒湿之患也。然竟不获其志，其命也夫！
