卢知原，字行之，湖州德清人。以父任知歙县，因近臣荐，赴都堂审察，累迁梓州路转运副使。时承平既久，戎备皆弛，知原招补兵籍，筑城亘二十余里。王黼当国，费出无艺，知原因疏言之，黼怒，罢去。久之，起提点京东刑狱，改江西转运副使，过阙入奏，徽宗勉之曰："卿在蜀道，功效甚休。"遂赐三品服。
先是，纲运阻于重江，吏卒并缘为奸。知原悉意经理，故先诸道上京师，进一官，寻除直秘阁，为江、淮、荆、浙等路发运使。升秘阁修撰，提举河北。以言者劾，褫职归吏部。
高宗即位，复龙图阁、知温州。时叶浓陷建州，扬勍陷处州，知原缮甲兵，增城浚隍，声势隐然。帝东幸，知原繇海道转粟及金缯士余万至台州。召见，称奖，擢右文殿修撰、管内安抚使。在郡四年，民绘像祠之。
王师讨范汝为，召为添差两浙转运使。罢，提举太平观。都督孟庾辟为参谋，改徽猷阁待制、知临安府。谏官唐辉言："知原为政乖谬。"诏复为都督府参谋官。章再上，遂以旧职奉祠。绍兴十一年十月卒。弟法原。
