宋史卷三百五十 列传第一百九：
刘阒，字静叔，青州北海人。以拳力为军校，从延州军出塞遇敌，矢贯左耳，战不顾，众服其勇。从文彦博讨贝州，次城下，攀垒欲登，贼以曲戟钩其甲，阒裂之而坠。议者欲穿地道入，阒曰："穴地积土，贼且知之。城濒河，若昼囊土而夜投诸河，宜无知者。"彦博以为然。穴成，阒持短兵先入，众始从，遂登陴，引绳而上，迟明，师毕入。贝州平，功第一，擢虎翼指挥使。累迁宣武神卫都指挥使、昭州刺史、辰州团练使。
韩绛宣抚陕西，诏阒自河东为犄角。至铁冶沟，夏人大集。众惧，阒自殿后，率锐骁搏战，飞矢蔽体不为却，敌解去。
为冀州驻泊总管。河水涨，堤防垫急，阒请郡守开青杨道口以杀水怒，莫敢任其责。阒躬往浚决，水退，冀人赖之。以左金吾大将军致仕。卒，年八十五。
