清史稿卷四百九十一 列传二百七十八：
刘继祖，江西玉山人。增贡生。道光十一年，以同知分福建。十九年，除淡水同知，以忧去。服阕，借拣知州，发广西。二十七年，授永康，寻署藤县。时灌阳、平乐、阳朔等处匪徒肆扰，偕知府张熙宇督剿，歼擒殆尽，进知府。咸丰元年，金田贼败窜大黄江，继祖率水陆壮勇乘夜攻击，焚其巢。以所部练勇失钤束，夺职。四年，巡抚劳崇光奏请留藤协办团练，寻艇贼梁培友纠众攻藤，继祖偕知县翟登峨等婴城固守，设间出奇击卻之。旋以土贼冯六、戴九等接踵至，据河干，尽焚沿岸舟，乡团来援者不得渡。贼众兵单，城陷，继祖受重创，与登峨子襄采、团长梁文轼等巷战，力竭，死之。登峨被掳，骂贼不屈，被害，弃尸於河。典史冉正棠斗死狱门。诏复继祖原官，赏世职，登峨以次死者恤有差。
