子毓崧，字伯山。道光二十年举优贡生。从父受经，长益致力於学。以文淇故，治左氏缵述先业，成春秋左氏传大义二卷。以文淇考证左传旧疏，因承其义例，著周易、尚书、毛诗、礼记旧疏考正各一卷。又谓六艺未兴之先，学各有官，惟史官之立为最古。不独史家各体各类并支裔之小说家出於史官，即经、子、集三部及后世之幕客书吏，渊源所仿，亦出於史官。班氏之志艺文，论述史官，尚未发斯旨。其叙九流，以明诸子所出之官，必有所授，而其中仍有分省失当者。既析九流中小说家流归入史官，又辨道家非专出於史官，改为出於医官。又增益者凡三家：曰名家，出於司士之官；兵家，出於司马之官；艺术家，出於考工之官：统为十一家。博稽载籍，穷极根要，成史乘、诸子通义各四卷。又经传通义十卷，王船山年谱二卷，彭城献徵录十卷，旧德录一卷，通义堂笔记十六卷，文集十六卷，诗集一卷。卒，年五十。
