清史稿卷四百八十九 列传二百七十六：
刘升，邵阳人。宝庆协把总，从副将某征苗，副将逗留不前，升於众中出谩语，某衔之。师至狗爬崖，令率百人为前锋，约举白旗为后援。升策马轹阵，贼不能支，侦无后继，复悉锐搏战。升连举白旗，旗失，复解所服白衵招之，某故按兵不发，升战死，百人殉焉。死极惨，首体糜粉，无可收瘗者。后祀昭忠祠，主入时，旋风暴起，吹气作血腥，袭众几仆。时以乡团死最烈者，有滕家瓒。
