刘凝之，南郡枝江人。
南史卷七十五 列传第六十五：
刘凝之，字隐安，小名长生，南郡枝江人也。父期公，衡阳太守。兄盛公，高尚不仕。凝之慕老莱、严子陵为人，推家财与弟及兄子，立屋于野外，非其力不食。州里重其行，辟召一无所就。妻梁州刺史郭铨女也，遣送丰丽，凝之悉散之属亲。妻亦能不慕荣华，与凝之共居俭苦。夫妻共乘蒲笨车，出市买易，周用之外，辄以施人。为村里所诬，一年三输公调，求辄与之。又尝认其所著屐，笑曰："仆著已败，今家中觅新者备君。"此人后田中得所失屐，送还不肯复取。临川王义庆、衡阳王义季镇江陵，并遣使存问。凝之答书曰，顿首，称仆，不为百姓礼，人或讥焉。凝之曰："昔老莱向楚王称仆，严陵亦抗礼光武，未闻巢、许称臣尧、舜。"时戴颙与衡阳王义季书，亦称仆。荆州年饥，义季虑凝之馁毙，饷钱十万。凝之大喜，将钱至市门，观有饥色者，悉分与之，俄顷立尽。性好山水，一旦携妻子泛江湖，隐居衡山之阳，登高岭，绝人迹，为小屋居之。采药服食，妻子皆从其志。卒年五十九。
