清史稿卷四百九十六 列传二百八十三：
何培清，字镜亭，广东归善人。入提标，补千总。光绪三十四年，领连和防营，提督秦炳直才之。调博罗，剿罗桂帮匪，尽歼之。会鄂变，粤应之，民军猝集，攻博罗。培清以三百人登陴守两昼夜，敌不得逞。奸民开门迎民军，执培清，不欲死之。甫出，猝遇罗桂馀党，出不意，狙击死之。
时又有黄兆熊者，名家玟，以字行，湖南湘潭人。久从秦炳直为惠安水师营哨官。博罗既失，民军薄惠州，兆熊被调入城守，三日目不交睫。城陷，传提督被害，悲怆不欲生。时全城抢攘，独携枪至城堞间，以足趾触枪机，洞贯胸腹死。
