宋史卷三百九十五 列传第一百五十四：
任希夷，字伯起，其先眉州人。四世祖伯雨为谏议大夫，其后仕闽，因家邵武。希夷少刻意问学，为文精苦。登淳熙三年进士第，调建宁府浦城簿。从朱熹学，笃信力行，熹器之曰："伯起，开济士也。"
开禧初，主太常寺簿，奏："绍熙以来，礼书未经编次，岁月滋久，恐或散亡，乞下本寺修纂。"从之。迁礼部尚书兼给事中。谓："周惇颐、程颢、程颐为百代绝学之倡，乞定议赐谥。"其后惇颐谥元，颢谥纯，颐谥正，皆希夷发之。
进端明殿学士、签书枢密院事兼权参知政事。史弥远柄国久，执政皆具员，议者颇讥其拱默。寻提举临安洞霄宫，薨，赠少师，谥宣献。
