宋史卷三百二十三 列传第八十二：
孟元，字善长，洺州人。性谨愿少过，颇喜读书。少隶禁军，以挽强选补殿侍，累迁散都头班指挥使，擢如京使、并代州兵马都监，改钤辖，徙高阳关路，又徙真定路。
王则据贝州反，元赴城下攻战，被数十创，又中机石，坠濠中。既出，战愈力。更募死士由永济渠穴地以进。贼平，改右骐骥使，徙大名府路钤辖。河朔饥，权知沧州。民鬻盐为生，岁荒盐多不售，民无以自给。元度军食有余，悉用易盐，繇是民不转徙。
御史中丞郭劝言其贝州功而赏未当，乃擢普州刺史，迁宫苑使，专管勾麟府军马事。护筑永宁堡，敌不敢动。为龙神卫四厢都指挥使、忠州团练使、高阳关马步军总管，迁天武、捧日四厢都指挥使，又迁步军都虞候、眉州防御使、并代路副都总管。判北京贾昌朝奏为大名府路副都总管，徙定州路，迁马军都虞候，徙鄜延路，行至郑州卒，赠遂州观察使。
